Canadian Suppliers – Alcohol Inks
February 9, 2014 by Diane Marcotte
Finding it hard to find a supplier of alcohol inks in Canada?
For shipping purposes, most alcohol ink products are classified as hazardous materials due to their flammability rating. Ranger® Tim Holtz (the maker of the Adirondack range of inks and supplies), is only certified to ship any product that is classified as HAZMAT via ground freight service. These products unfortunately cannot be shipped ground outside the contiguous United States. Other US based companies ship via UPS but, whatever method is used, Canadians run the risk of delays in receiving their order and perhaps acquiring custom charges in addition to the shipping fee already paid.
Thankfully I have found two Canadian sources for alcohol inks that I can recommend without reservation.
Shades of Clay – Oakville, Ontario
Adirondack Alcohol Inks
Acid-free, fast drying, transparent dye inks formulated to create a colourful, polished effect. Use on glossy paper, dominoes, metal, shrink plastic, glass and other slick surfaces. Kits contain three 0.5oz bottles of co-ordinated colours. One can also purchase individual bottles of a single colour.
Pinata Colors by Jacquard
Beautiful, colour-saturated, acid-free transparent inks that have an alcohol base which makes them indelible and moisture resistant when dry. Highly versatile, Pinata Inks can be used in a variety of applications, including rubber stamping, fine art, fiber art and scrapbooking. They can also be used in calligraphy, faux finishing techniques and airbrush applications as well as in wood and leather staining.
This firm also carries Pinata Claro Extender, and the Pinata Exciter Pack, an ideal introduction to these wonderful transparent colours. The package includes a 1/2oz bottle of Sunbright Yellow, Calabaza Orange, Chili Pepper Red, Sapphire Blue, Lime Green, Burro Brown, Blanco Blanco, Clean-up Solution and Claro Extender.
