Karlyn Holman – Artist

January 26, 2016 by Diane Marcotte

Have you ever found an artist whose sense of humour and adventure inspire you to paint? Karlyn Holman is one such artist! Her videos are a delight to watch – be it one of her instructional DVDs or one of her YouTube videos. No matter what she is painting she is having a grand time doing it and she generously shares her many techniques. Her books, DVDs, art supplies, her own kits and more are available from her website – http://www.karlynsgallery.com/karlyn.htm.

As her website so aptly puts it: “Karlyn has a loose, spontaneous painting style and an energetic, encouraging teaching style.”

Her books are organized like a recipe book allowing the reader to jump from section to section and still have full step-by-step instructions. You are encouraged to use your own imagination and creativity – add something you have never thought to try before; use products that are not defined as “art supplies”; paint on substrates not normally used by watercolourists. You will learn how to create better paintings by having a balance between spontaneity and control.

Although Karlyn incorporates watercolours in her paintings, non-watercolourists will also glean much as she explains the importance of tonal values and creating paths of light. Karlyn will inspire whether you are a novice or an experience painter and you will be enthralled with this enthusiastic and innovative artist.
